Description
The left over remains of a fireplace that has had the rest of the house torn down. Located in Elkmont of the Smoky Mountains. Most of the abandoned homes have now been removed and only a handful remain to remind us of the once vibrant area that once existed in Elkmont shortly after the national park was formed.

WOW Mike… what a great capture of an awesome spot.. I'd like to just build a small cabin around that fireplace and take up residence there! Sad for those who once lived there though.. to have lost their home.

Thanks so much Danielle! Yea I’m sure it was a very cool place in its time! When the national park was formed and the park service took over the area the people were at least given lifetime leases so they were able to keep their homes until they passed. I think the last one passed around 1991....if I remember correctly.
